Russia Got the Last Laugh

My thoughts on the WH smackdown that ensued yesterday in the Oval Office…

President Zelenskyy’s trip to the White House yesterday was historic, to say the least. A plan (the first of its kind) was in place for the signing of a minerals deal that would allow for mutual reciprocity between the United States and Ukraine. It would guarantee the U.S. untapped minerals, and in return, a shared revenue of funds, creating an economic alliance between both countries . Traditionally, these meetings occur behind closed doors because they are private. Not only was yesterday’s conversation in front of the press, but it was televised.

President Zelenskyy unknowingly struck a nerve in both President Trump and Vice President Vance. VP Vance immediately went on the defense, accusing the exhausted leader who has been fighting a war for three years of not being grateful enough to Americans for their support.

President Trump joined the vice president in the fight. He accused Zelenskyy of being ungrateful, defiant and incapable of working on a deal to end the war. He insinuated on national and international television, that President Zelenskyy was a money hungry leader, whose only mission on his trip to Washington was to implore for more military funding. 

This exchange led to President Zelenskyy being asked to leave, causing the highly anticipated minerals deal to fall through. Following his departure, President Trump posted on Truth Social saying that Zelenskyy “disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace."

Journalists from around the world took to social media to express their shock and disgust.  Hundreds noting, they had never seen such poor decorum on the federal level.

Friday, February 28th, 2025, will not go down in history for the historic minerals deal that was signed by the United States and Ukraine. It will instead go down in history for being the most undignified televised meeting between heads of state in the history of our nation.

Perhaps Russia organized a viewing party?
